Only allow computers to be in a common area and whenever you need to view what is going on you should feel free to do so and keep your children informed of why you are doing this so it doesnt become a bitter battle.

Put an admin block on certain websites and only give them between certain times a day they can be on the computer like 4-8pm only. That will lesson the time that you are not around when they use the internet.

Put spyware on the computer so you can actually review where your children are visiting on the web and what they are saying or reading from others.

Make a password for the computer and then you are the only one that can turn it on so you always know when someone needs to use it and you will always have to be home when they need it.

Before your child is allowed to speak with their friends via the internet you should get a full list and all of their phone numbers in case you need to contact one of their parents when something goes wrong.

I would let your child know that you can review what they have been looking at and they may just avoid it all together and make your job easier.

Dont be afraid as a parent to tell your child that you need to review what has been going on in their facebook just to be sure that everything is okay.

Have periodic checks where you ask them to get up so you can read what has been going on that day. This will keep them from even entertaining something for a second because they know you could possibly sit down and see something that they are doing. Remember that you are not trying to be your child's friend, you are a parent and that is most important.

Just dont buy your children a personal computer. Let them borrow yours and then check it nightly with whatevr spyware you have bought and be sure they are ok.
