Family and friends gathered in Beaufort for a candle light vigil for 12-year-old Celeste Wills, who took her own life. This was the first time her parents have spoken publicly about their daughter, who they believe was being bullied.

"I have not slept in I don't know how many days now," said Celeste's father, Dale Wills.

Celeste's parents told family and friends, there was a lot that they didn't know.

"In the research we did, she actually made a page [online] for people who have problems with depression, suicide, and bullying," said Wills.

Her dad says that she never let on that anything was wrong.

"I don't know how, but that beautiful smile covered that pain from day to day," said Wills.

As her parents and the community mourn the loss of Celeste, they refuse to let another child become a victim of bullying. People heard firsthand how one young girl was one verge of taking her own life, because of bullying.

"As a middle school girl, I never wanted my parents to know," said Alesia Gwynn.

Gwynn did not know Celeste, but says she can relate to what she may have been going through. She says she used to cut herself until her parents found out.

"We thought we were good parents; we thought we were the best parents, but she needed professional help, and so we got her professional help," said Julia Gwynn.

Saturday night's vigil was about Celeste and all children who are bullied; encouraging parents to be nosey in their child's life. Celeste's parents say they wish they had known how much pain their daughter was in. They said she did not leave a note before she took her life, but they read one of her last blog posts.

"Love yourself because you don't deserve to be hated," said Celeste's mom, Clarissa Wills.

A fund is set up in Celeste's name, if you would like to donate: http://www.gofundme.com/8t9gk4

Visitation has been set for Sunday, May 4, at Anderson Funeral home on Robert Smalls Parkway, from 2 to 4 pm. Memorial services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
