Justine Mitchell is an actress and writer, known for Goldfish Memory (2003), Imagine Me & You (2005) and Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story (2005). Her extensive theater experience includes many plays at The Abbey, The Gate and the Nottingham Playhouse. She received the Irish Times/ESB Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actress in Bash and for Blind Spirit at The Gate in 2002.
TV star Justine Mitchell has told how she first got into acting to stop being teased at school.
The 40-year-old stars as a journalist in new RTE drama Amber but she says she moved into that world to protect herself from bullies.She said: “I lived in Dublin until I was around 12 and then my parents moved to Hong Kong. I was 12 and I didn’t get much of a choice – I had to go.“I am writing a book about it at the minute because it was quite a jolt at that age to be somewhere like that.”Justine added she began creating characters for herself to try to fit in.She revealed: “At 12 years old you are kind of pretty watery – you don’t have a hugely strong sense of yourself.
“I got teased for being Irish and all that so I began putting on different accents and pretending I wasn’t Irish.
“I would put on an English accent and an American accent and pretend I was someone else. So it was a strange old time.”
