Darren Young, WWE star, came out as gay earlier this month and has spoken out against bullying.
Late Wednesday, on August 14, Young came out as gay to an unsuspecting TMZ reporter. Apparently the reporter asked if Young thought if there could ever be a gay professional wrestler. Laughing, Young replied with,
"Absolutely. Look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy."
This makes Young the first official professional wrestler to come out.
Shortly after coming out, Young spoke out at WWE's Be A Star Rally against bullying, according to E!. He explained the difference between physical and emotional bullying before sharing his own experience with the crowd. He explained how as a kid he had a speech impediment and was told that he would never succeed.
"Be the best you can be, be involved," he advised. "Its very important because you guys are the future."
