South Florida is not a stranger to bullying, especially in our schools.

Broward, Dade and Palm Beach County Schools will be opening very shortly and sadly it is a fact that some children will be facing the darkness of bullying, harassing, teasing and even physical abuse that can happen in schoolyards and lunchrooms.

Whether your child is going into elementary school or entering their college years, bullying doesn't discriminate. No one is immune from becoming a victim of a bully or cyberbully. Whether it is on a school campus or virtually, this is why building an awareness and educating parents, teachers and students on prevention is imperative.

STOMP Out Bullying™ focuses on reducing and preventing bullying, cyberbullying, sexting and other digital abuse, educating against homophobia, racism and hatred, decreasing school absenteeism, and deterring violence in schools, online and in communities across the country.

To kick-off this school year STOMP Out Bullying is offering wristbands and T-Shirts that sends a message that we won't tolerate bullying in any form. It is time all communities and schools join and become proactive together.

October 7th, 2013 is Blue Shirt World Day of Bullying Prevention. Let's be sure our schools and community are ready and have a voice that tells others we won't tolerate bullying in any form. Learn more about purchasing these items at Pass it on to your schools, friends, family and neighbors.

Ross Ellis, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of STOMP Out Bullying™ said:

“Kids who are intimidated, threatened, or harmed by bullies and cyberbullies often experience low self-esteem and depression. Some take their lives as an alternative. Many do not understand how extreme bullying can get. Parents, teachers and school administrators must use sensitivity in handling these issues. They must also work to make the victims more resilient, as well as working to help change the behavior of the bully. Schools cannot continue to sweep the issue under the rug.”

The recent statistics show:

- 1 out of 4 kids are Bullied.
- 9 out of 10 LGBT students experience harassment at school.
- Depending on their ages, up to 43% of kids and teens report being digitally harassed
- 8% of kids stay home from school each day due to the fear of being bullied

Let's make this a healthy and safe school year free of bullying and cyberbullying. You can be the difference and make the difference in your community.

The stomp out bullying program is a great way for kids to show their support for anti-bullying. Cyber bullying seems to be an epidemic, I hope they can help raise awareness on that issue as well.
