Education Queensland staff tried to intimidate the president of a Parents and Citizens Association into ending an online campaign to save her school, a budget estimates hearing has heard.

Toowoomba South State School is one of eight state schools which will find out in August if it will close.

Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk says departmental staff contacted the woman to ask her to stop her Facebook and Twitter campaigns.

"She is appalled, she has felt intimidated, she has felt bullied," she told a budget estimates hearing on Tuesday.

"I don't think that it's appropriate behaviour."

Education Queensland director-general Jim Watterston couldn't confirm if his staff were responsible, but said he would investigate the claims.

"To the best of knowledge that hasn't been an instruction which has come through my office," he told the hearing.

The other state schools proposed for closures are in Fortitude Valley, Old Yarranlea, Stuart, Wyreema, Nyanda, Charlton, and Everton Park.

Education Minister John Paul Langbroek revealed on Tuesday the government has spent $56,000 on the consultation process.

It was also revealed that the government will sell a further $32 million worth of school land, such as ovals, teacher accommodation and land reserved for future schools.

The government has budgeted to sell $70 million worth of land in 2012/13, but so far only $38 million has been offloaded.

"Where is the remaining $32 million?" Ms Palaszczuk asked.

"What are those properties?"

Deputy director-general of corporate services Jeff Hunt wouldn't say what land was being considered for sale until issues such as native title were worked through.

"We wouldn't release the details of the other parcels at this stage," he said.

"We are working through that process to achieve the figures you are talking about."
The money raised from the eight possible school closures will not be included in the $32 million target

They won't release the information? Sounds like the same sort of deceptive practices and bureaucratic hoops the american system practices at times.

Any government agency interfering with a private citizens association (in most cases is wrong) ... I this case I know they are wrong.
