KATE Miller-Heidke understands first hand what it's like to be bullied. Like thousands of teenagers, the Australian singer suffered bullying at high school.
But with those days now behind her, Miller-Heidke has lent her voice and her latest song Caught in the Crowd to a campaign calling on all students across the country to fight bullying.
"I was bullied at high school, for sure," she told The Daily Telegraph.
Miller-Heidke's latest song is a call to action for teens not to ignore bullying.
"The perspective of the observer is not one that has been explored much in song.''
“Caught In The Crowd” is a very personal song for Kate. “I was bullied a lot, starting at pre-school. Not until year 11 did I learn a few skills that helped me come across as less socially weird, but socializing didn’t come naturally to me. I basically pretended to be someone I wasn’t, to have opinions I didn’t have. That worked quite well, but it was all acting. It shaped me to a degree. A lot of people were traumatized during their school years. People write to me and say, ‘I hadn’t thought about it for years, but I now realize how mean I was to a girl in high school.”
