They play a gay couple on television but in real life, Eric Stonestreet is straight and Jesse Tyler Ferguson is not.
But Barbara Walters, who interviews the pair on her annual 10 Most Fascinating People of the Year special which airs on ABC tonight, says she learned the two 'have a great deal in common besides what they play' on television.
The 40-year-old Stonestreet, who is quite unlike his flamboyant television alter-ego, took his share of abuse as a child in Kansas City because of his size.
'I was made fun of as a kid for being overweight,' he says. 'I was always the biggest kid around - the tallest, the widest and the thickest. It definitely helped me become me. I learned to take jokes away from people before they could say them.'

I knew that Jesse was a gay man in real life but I didnt know that Eric was not gay himself which I would like to take a moment to comend you on your acting. Brilliant role and a great show. Gay is not bad its just different and we all need to learn to accept being different.
