Its not uncommon for parents to enroll their kids in a karate class to learn basic self defense techniques. The kids think its fun because their parents are in a way allowing them to fight but there are basic needs that your child needs to get through life in pne piece and learning to take a punch and give a punch is one of them. Dont think you are setting yourself up for creating a bully because the karate instructors are very clear that the only time it is ok to fight is when you have to defend yourself. Running away is always the first rule they teach you in karate. Run away and live to fight another day.

Parents should sit in on a karate class and watch how disciplined the karate students are before enrolling them. I promise you that any hang ups that you have will be eliminated when you find out how controlled the classes are and how the kids like to show up and learn. Its a positive environment for a kid and they learn how to defend and do the right thing.

Karate teaches basic self defense and a strong discipline for when you can and cannot use fighting. Once they have developed a strong self defense foundation you can aslo enroll them in a MMA fighting school. This will teach your son or daughter a complete package on self defense and a proper offense when needed. They will stay in shape and stay out of trouble because whenever you are enrolled at an MMA school and you fight outside the class that is grounds for permanent expulsion from and further classes. Teaching your kids that fighting is never ok outside of the ring.

5 years old is a good age.Any younger and it might be too difficult for the child to retain.

I have seen kids as young as 3 start training in the MMA gyms around my area it just depends on how they are with their athletic ability.

This is correct. The instructor always says the first way to avoid a fight is run. This isnt tell help kids become bullies its to help kids not become a victim. Its self defense not self offense.

You can pay by the class so you dont have to waste classes if you can make it on certain nights and that can be around 10-15 bucks or if you want a year pass then you are looking around like 600-900 depending on how many classes a week you are signing up for.
