I would like to know that because whenever you open any account under false pretense you must sign or consent a form that agrees you are entering all the information to the best of your ability. So I think it should be basically like stealing someone's identity.
I had a facebook account before, but I decided to stay away from it and move on as normally as I could. There's a lot of fake profiles back then, and I believe there's still a lot of it even more now. Identity theft is one those things that happen lately and it's not really a good sight.
I've seen profiles from my friends that have been copied almost perfectly by the poser, they all had this photos of her, some of it were real and some of it were photoshopped. But then again, the profile was obviously fake it was a good thing that the poser didn't knew about her birthday so he just put the default date 01/01.
This nice article I read earlier today has some great tips for those who think they might have been victimized by a fake facebook account and how to avoid it in the future. http://darktips.com/11-tips-to-identify-fake-profiles-on-facebook
That depends what you were doing with the identity. If you are a minor and using it for alcohol consumption then no but if you are trying to make money or something bad like that then it becomes a felony.
