When Gigi Hadid first started in the modeling industry, she was told, “you have to lose a lot of weight” in order to be a successful model. You see, the 21-year-old was a super-athletic volleyball player who “had crazy muscles and [ate] like a man,” and always embraced her curves. Eventually, the blonde was able to make a name for herself as a high-fashion model who did have curves, and people LOVED it. But lately, that started to change.
Over the course of the last year or so, fans noticed Zayn Malik’s boo has started to lose weight, and some even accused her of having an eating disorder, or purposely dropping pounds in order to be more accepted in the industry. Below is just a very small portion of the comments Gigi has been getting almost constantly for months and months on end:
The skinny-shaming got to be so bad that the supermodel finally had enough and sent an assertive-yet-eloquent response to one of the haters who said she was getting too skinny because she wanted “to fit in.”
“It’s called growing up. Bodies change as girls become women, just as my mom’s body changed at the same age,” she clapped back. “Having my body judged over the 4 teen-to-woman years has really shown me the human tendency to label and make uneducated judgement. Meanwhile… I loved my body as a 17 year old athlete and I love my body now.”
The blonde beauty confirmed that her body has changed due to different workouts, stress, etc, but she’s never “purposely” changed her physique.
“Your comment won’t get me down, but next time, please think about the young women who many read body-judgment comments and judge themselves as they see their bodies growing and therefor naturally changing, too.”
Skinny-shaming is a real problem and is something that’s just as awful as any other kind of body-shaming.
