As a child he was a victim of bullying, but as he progressed as a fighter and gained confidence through Karate, his fighting abilities demanded respect on the streets of Saint John.
"I dealt with my bully. He beat me up when I was in grade 7 and he was in grade 9. A couple years later I fought him when he was 18, and I was 15. I was starting to get good at karate, I beat him up. It was a good confidence builder for me, but I don't have any problems with any old bullies. We were kids. In terms of kids being bullied now, they can let it tear them down, or they can let it build them up. You will either turn into a diamond or crushed coal. It's important they tell themselves they have inner strength, and they will become the diamond."
