Derek Selby is the Canadian Retail Director for CoverFX skincare. He joined CoverFX in May 2006 after 20 years in the cosmetic industry. Derek began his career in hairdressing school and realized hair just wasn’t for him. In the mid 80’s Derek started in Cosmetics as a Beauty Advisor behind the counter at Shoppers Drug Mart. From there he moved to the Lancôme counter at Simpsons while taking Make-up artistry at Seneca College. After a couple of years behind the counter it was time to move up within Lancôme. He held various positions including Regional Trainer and National Make-up Artist training under International make-up pro Fred Farrugia. In 1999 Derek launched Shoppers Drug Mart’s cosmetic line Quo working to develop new products and training the store staff.
Derek has been a guest expert on Cityline since 1997. Derek has been a regular make-up artist, done many segment on various beauty products and travelled to Vancouver, England and France with the show. His print work has appeared in Homemakers, Modern Woman Magazine, Elle Canada and Flare Magazine.
Derek suffered at the hands of bullies because of his sexuality when he was younger." It got to the point one day when I just had enough and I went home to my parents and I said I am not going back to that school. " I won't allow myself to be bullied anymore and that comes from being confident in who I am and accepting who I am.The roughest years are your teen years and what is so cool is that when you make it through your teen years you know have control and it does get better."
