Anthony Cotton is an English actor, best known for his roles in Coronation Street and the original UK version of Queer as Folk. In March 2013, he recently won Let's Dance for Comic Relief, defeating fellow finalist Jodie Prenge
Soap actor Anthony Cotton received homophobic abuse from footballer Michael Ball. Instead of ignoring the Twitter or blocking the star Anthony decided to call out the footballer on his abuse. The result? Ball has been fined £6,000 by the FA for the comments he made on Twitter.
Cotton commented on why he always fights back to the bullies: “It is important to stand up, speak out and stamp out homophobia. And for that reason it’s important that I stand up for myself and make a point at least. Homophobia has no place in our society. What anyone thinks of me, the actor off the telly, is none of my business. But as a gay man, I am proud of who I am and the community I am part of. Some people are gay, get over it.”
