Thomas Carlyle "Tom" Ford is an American fashion designer and film director. He gained international fame for his turnaround of the Gucci fashion house and the creation of the Tom Ford label before directing the Oscar-nominated film A Single Man.
The fashion mogul and A Single Man director was picked on by his classmates and sometimes the verbal assault would turn physical.
He tells U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight, "One of the best things was rocks in the end of a sock... If you're different when you're growing up as a kid you get bullied."
However, Ford insists he didn't know he was being "different" when he first discovered style: "I had my own look growing up. In the second or third grade, I would wear a men's overcoat and I carried a briefcase... I just thought I looked great. Other kids didn't necessarily think I looked great; they thought I looked different."
