He may be one of the most recognisable faces in the country but there’s a lot more to Alex Reid than you read in the tabloids.
Born in Aldershot, the youngest of five children, his father was a private in the army and his mother a school governor. They created a close and supportive family environment which nurtured Alex’s sensitive side and allowed him to explore his two major passions: acting and sport.
As a teenager Alex was surprised to learn that his father had been an army boxing champion. Bullied at school and lacking in confidence Alex, was inspired to follow in his father’s footsteps and began to train in martial arts. Far from encouraging violence Alex found that the focus and discipline helped him discover a new level of spiritualism and peace. His dedication meant that he naturally began practicing mixed martial arts and as a respectful and skilled sportsman he has fought competitively since.
Whilst working as a body double for Tom Hanks in the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Saving Private Ryan’, Alex asked his co-star Vin Diesel for advise on pursuing a serious career in acting. Vin’s response; ‘Go to drama school’, prompted Alex to enroll in the prestigious Guildford School of Acting where he spent a year studying. A talented performer with a commanding presence, soon after leaving he secured roles across film and television in ‘Solider, Solider’, ‘Sliding Doors’, ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ and ‘Hollyoaks’. Alex is extremely passionate about honing his craft and dedicates himself to regular acting classes, constantly developing as a performer. Incredibly versatile and dynamic, you can expect to see a lot more of Alex on the stage and screen in the very near future.
