The Help’s Jessica Chastain is red-hot in Hollywood right now, appearing on the silver screen seven times in 2011 alone. But according to Chastain, her fiery mane attracted all the wrong kinds of attention when she was younger — and her recent fame may be provoking new, grown-up bullying.
“I got teased a lot when I was a little kid,” she told ASOS Magazine. “When you become an adult, that stops. But then when you’re a known actor, it comes back.” Chastain says it’s difficult to stumble across “mean, mean things” about herself on message boards: “It’s really shocking and strange.”
She credits her lower-class upbringing for arming her with a thick skin, saying that she could be equally happy working off-Broadway, out of the limelight, as long as she could still pursue her passion for drama.
