10 Tips for Parents If Your Child is Bullied
We hear about parents getting involved with their kids being bullied in the news weekly; parents going to the school to yell at the bully and some have gone as far as to physically assault the bully.
According to Jim West, Licensed Mental Health Male Counselor, it is perfectly normal for a parent to feel over protective of their child that is getting bullied, but getting involved in that manner is just not the solution.
Parents, your kid needs you to stay calm. Don’t go to the school and pick a fight with a kid. For parents that are not sure what to do in this situation, West gives you his advice:

1. Developing a Healthy Self-Esteem Now or in the Early Years!
2. Building Social Skills to have a Posse! Teach your child how to make friends so you are not alone!
3. Making Peers Feel Like a Million Bucks!
4. How to Roll with Teasing? Ignoring doesn’t always work and walking away still gives the bully what they want. So it’s important to respond without insulting them back and without letting them see they are getting to you! Example:
a. Bully: “You’re a faggot and I had fun with your mom last night!”
b. Victim (said without sarcasm): “That’s the Best thing I’ve heard all day! You always bring out the best in me.”
5. Parenting Style may cause Bullying Behaviors? Be careful what you say about others while your kids are listening? If you are critical of others your child may do the same.
6. Listen to your child when they tell you they are being bullied.
7. Be on your child’s side, but be open that they may be bullying others.
8. Be supportive
9. Talk to the school and make yourself aware of their bullying program or procedures.
10. Be on their social networks as a friend and block those who cyberbully.
